Tweed Developers Win $10,000 From Palm in July…Leave webOS in May.

This has got to be a tough pill to swallow for HP/Palm. Back in July, Palm announced the results of their Hot Apps competition winners, which included Tweed by Pivotal Labs. Pivotal Labs walked away with a nice $10,000 for their efforts to develop a great Twitter client app.

Today Pivotal Labs announces that they are walking away from the webOS platform – as well as pulling the app from the App Catalog, which means users who have paid for the app will not be able to reinstall it.

Pivotal's reasons?

  • Changes in the way that Twitter is working with 3rd party app developers.
  • Unwillingness to transition to the new webOS Enyo framework.

On their blog, Davis Frank says, "After careful consideration we decided that the correct course of action is to formally end development and support for Tweed."

Frank goes on to recommend Tweed users consider an alternative Twitter client, Carbon. Carbon developers have gone on to discount their product to $1.99 in anticipation of this migration.
